Rozz Rezabek - “1979 Pop Session”

“1979 Pop Session”
Hozac
Wow! I don’t even know where to start here. I am so glad that the saints over at Hozac records decided to put this lp out. I remember flipping through CDs at local Portland music store Everyday Music looking for bargains. I was collecting vinyl but also still loved CDs and they were cheap at the time. I found this bootleg cd that said Negative Trend “The Pop Sessions”. I loved the Negative Trend E.P. (You know the killer one with “Meat House on it.) and scooped this up because it had more songs and well fuck…it’s fucking Negative Trend! You know it’s gonna rip! I had no idea that these recording would just blow my fucking face off. The most blistering punk rock ever recorded. Now you have to understand this is not a Negative Trend record. It’s basically Rozz, their first vocalists’ band after he left. You get nine songs that put that fucking Sex Pistols lp to shame in my humble opinion (If only they had that production!). You get some amazing lyrics and one of the coolest sounding vocal deliveries I have ever heard on this record.
The songs have a rough demo quality to them, but Hozac did their best to clear the recordings up. Such an upscale from that CD. This band fucked shit up in the San Francisco for a short period of time and then Rozz split back to Portland Oregon and formed new wave/post punk band “Theater of Sheep”. When I listen to this record it’s like picturing myself punching every asshole that ever deserved it right in the face.
When a record gives you a feeling you know it’s fantastic! There isn’t a bad song on this lp but my faves have to be “M-16”, “I can laugh About It Now”, “Dead Wrong”, and “I don’t Wanna be a Machine) Karen Anne Quinlan”. I wish this band had lasted just a bit longer. Damn! This world sucks.
