Jeff Parker - "The New Breed (IA11 Edition)"

Jeff Parker
"The New Breed (IA11 Edition)"
International Anthem
Originally I know Jeff Parker as a member of 90's Chicago indie rock instrumental band Tortoise (I think I even have photos I took of them at The Troubadour in the late 90's) but I rediscovered him a few years ago playing on Makaya McCraven's records. I really dig Makaya's albums "Universal Beings" out on this same label and "Deciphering The Message" which is out on Blue Note. Can't reccomend those enough and they kind of introduced me to this world of cool contemporary jazz that is inspired by hip hop that I really fuck with.
From what I understand this album started out as old home recordings and beat-centric tracks that Parker rediscovered after moving from Chicago to Los Angeles a few years ago. He then got a band together to help him flesh it out and finish it up. It doesn't land too far from Makaya's own records, maybe just a bit more experimental I'd say. It's cool, mellow, chill but still weird enough for me to stay interested. And man I gotta add that the older I get the more I love recoreds with no singer to fuck it up for me. You know the fucking vibes.
This is a cool ass record, I fuck with these dudes. Haha oh Hell yeah.
Order the vinyl here.
